Early Risers at Humphrey’s Peak
I am an Early Rise Hiker – one who started a hiking group at the beginning of 2015 and was successful beyond my wildest dreams in finding knowledgeable and downright inspirational people to hike with. I am absolutely in love with the McDowell Sonoran Preserve, and with the support and encouragement of fellow Early Risers, have hiked further into and around the preserve in my first year with this group than I ever did in ten years of hiking on my own. My first goal for this blog is to document those McDowell Sonoran Preserve hikes for newcomers to the area, and for those who are just new to hiking.
Having been shown the way and encouraged to keep up (and up, and up!) I have pushed the bourgeoning obsession into my travel plans, and expect to leave blog notes like cairns for anyone who is interested in taking similar trips – around Arizona, and beyond.
Early Rise Hikers is now a community of over 4000 Arizona and out-of-state hikers with a calendar full of hikes ranging from hour long fitness hikes to full day excursions. With more sunshine than Hawaii and Florida, and landscapes that bring tourists from all over the world, Arizona’s hiking trails are truly spectacular. There is no doubt in my mind that we are going to continue to get up, get out, and go places!
